Western Cape storms update: Cape Point open, Lion’s Head trails closed

In addition, the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) announced the following: “Due to the current severe weather conditions experienced across the Western Cape, coupled with heavy rain and strong winds throughout the Cape Town area, Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) management would like to notify the public of certain closures within the park.
“While the Cape of Good Hope (Cape Point as it’s commonly known) remains open, the funicular service is suspended due to high winds.
“Boulders Penguin Colony remains accessible for visitors.
“However, for safety reasons, the Oudekraal and Newlands picnic site, Deer Park, Rhodes Memorial, and Lions Head trails are closed until further notice.
“We urge all visitors to exercise extreme caution if planning to visit TMNP.
“Wet, slippery surfaces and gusty winds pose risks to your safety.
“If possible, please postpone your visit until weather conditions improve.
“Stay updated on weather advisories through our website and social media platforms.”

There was widespread damage to roads, flooding in several areas, trees uprooted and destruction amounting to millions of rands in the Western Cape in the last 24 hours.
Chapman’s Peak drive, one of the world’s most scenic routes, which winds its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay on the Atlantic coast, has been closed due to high winds and threats of rockfalls.
The latest available news – and a look at the weather forecast – suggests that Chapman’s Peak will remain closed to traffic for some time to come.
CHAPMAN’S PEAK ALSO CLOSED FOR TWO OCEANS MARATHON
In addition, the famed road will also be closed on Saturday, 13 April due to the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon.
Meanwhile, strong winds blew over several vehicles at the Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 outside Cape Town.
The tunnel has also been closed.
