Just two days ago it started as a campaign to get 12 likes on Facebook against a popular series of ads by Telkom, but already it has got a whole lot more than a dozen.
The one-man (or is it the one-band?) campaign is against the well-known adverts that some see as cute, others as terrifying, showing babies talking. The Facebook campaign has also unleashed a lot of comments from people saying they like the ads and, more importantly, doesn’t David Scott have anything more important to start a campaign against than TV ads.
Scott, who is with the band The Kiffness, began the campaign on Facebook holding a placard saying “If this pictures gets enough likes I will make sure that Telkom never make talking baby adverts again.” By Tuesday morning, the picture had over 18,000 likes and over 1,100 shares.
Says Scott in the post, “I’ve taken it upon myself to end this war on talking baby terror that Telkom (with it’s Facebook address attached) have subjected the South African public to in their terrible adverts. But first, my lawyer has said that I’ll need at least 12 likes to get started.”
