US-based carrier United Airlines will trial a new method of boarding passengers on its scheduled flights. This is in an effort to cut boarding times.

Airlines lose revenue when their aircraft are on the ground. An aircraft in the air is an aircraft that is generating income for the company.

QUICK TURN-AROUND

Europe’s budget airlines like Ryanair, EasyJet, and WizzAir are known for their quick turn-around times between flights.

An aircraft can arrive at an airport and within 30 minutes be hurtling back down the runway on its journey to the next destination, with a planeload of passengers.

It takes a great deal of hustling and effort to get passengers on and off flights in a flash.

SAVING TIME

The boarding of passengers is an essential part of the process of transporting people. However, it does take considerable time to get passengers onto and off an aircraft.

This loss of time represents a loss of income to airline companies since time spent on the ground is not time that generates revenue.

Airlines earn money when their planes are flying and transporting people and goods between places.

United Airlines expects that this change could shave two minutes off the boarding process.

UNITED AIRLINES IMPLEMENTS NEW BOARDING STRATEGY

According to CNBC United Airlines has said in an internal memo that it will board economy passengers with window seats before passengers with middle and aisle seats.

The carrier will change its boarding procedure next week by asking economy-class passengers who have selected window seats to board the aircraft before other passengers.

The new boarding method will debut on certain flights from 26 October.

UNITED AIRLINES: ECONOMY CLASS

This new procedure will be applied to economy class. The change does not affect passengers in first class and business class, as well as others in the preboarding group.

The new boarding process will be implemented on all United Airlines’ domestic flights and some international flights.
