Although South African passports have been declining in power over the last two decades, there are still many countries that allow South Africans visa-free visits. Here is a look at four islands South Africans can travel to for a relaxing vacation without a visa.

VISIT MAURITIUS VISA-FREE

Mauritius is a subtropical island country off the south-eastern coast of Africa. Certainly key attractions are the coral reefs that surround the main island and the sandy beaches. Mauritius has warm, dry winters (May to November) and hot, wet, and humid summers (November to May).

World Travel Awards™ declared Mauritius as ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination’ for 2024. World Travel Awards™ was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. What’s more, according to the 2023 Global Peace Index, Mauritius was the most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa.

IRELAND WELCOMES SOUTH AFRICANS

Another one of the islands South Africans can visit without a visa, is Ireland west of Great Britain. The island is divided into two parts: Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Ireland is a member of the European Union. It has a mild climate and frequent rainfall. Although it can be quite cold, the temperature is rarely extreme, and snowfall is uncommon.

It is known for its rolling green hills and beautiful coastline as well as its rich cultural heritage. The cities are small but diverse and bustling. In general, the Irish are welcoming and friendly as one can see in the country’s lively pubs – something that most South Africans will appreciate.

SINGAPORE – NO VISA, NO PROBLEM

Singapore in southeast Asia consists of a main island, along with almost 64 smaller offshore islands. It enjoys consistent temperatures ranging from 24 to 34 degree Celsius throughout the year, and for that reason it a suitable destination at any time of the year. The period between February and May is the driest with minimal rainfall and low humidity. Singapore is located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. With four official languages, it has a vibrant and diverse culture that many South Africans will enjoy.

SEE JAMAICA WITHOUT A VISA

Probably one of the most interesting islands South Africans can visit without a visa, is Jamaica. Because Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae, visitors can expect a strong reggae music presence and an easy-going island culture. It has a humid tropical climate, with warm to hot weather throughout the year. Average temperatures range from 33 degrees Celsius in summer to 23 degrees Celsius in winter. Jamaica is the fourth-most populous country in the Caribbean. Main attractions include Negril Beach and the Blue Mountains. It has majestic waterfalls and lush landscapes.

“You can’t go to Jamaica and not visit the Bob Marley Museum. Bob is a legend in Jamaica and part of their whole culture.”

“I have been to almost every part of Jamaica and Seven Mile Beach is by far the best location in all of Jamaica, the sunsets are incredible, the ocean is calm, the sand is soft and white.”
