SCHENGEN VISAS TO BE DIGITALISED
The European Union Council has given the go-ahead to digitalise the application process Schengen visas for anyone wanting to to travel to any of Europe’s Schengen areas.

According to SchengenVisaInfo, this means that travellers applying for visas need not physically visit a consulate or embassy and wait in long queues in order to proceed with applications.

Physical visits to consulates will become mostly unnecessary, except in the cases off first-time applicants, individuals with new travel documents, and those with expired biometric data.

WHAT CHANGES?
As per the EU Council, the main development in this online process will be the creation of an EU visa application platform, where applicants will be able to enter all necessary information, upload electronic copies of their travel and supporting documents and easily pay their visa fees.

Applicants will also receive notifications on their visa decision on the online platform, making the long wait for approval a little better.
The launch date of this new digital Schengen Visa application platform will be decided once the work has been completed, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
