Cape Town’s Cullinan Hotel reopens and plans to boost tourism
The Cullinan Hotel, a classic luxury hotel located in Cape Town has reopened after undergoing major refurbishment.
Cape Town’s Cullinan Hotel has reopened its doors after an intensive revamp.
This is good news for the city of Cape Town, which is seeing increased tourist flows in recent times.
GROWING TOURIST NUMBERS
Cape Town has seen growing numbers of international visitors arriving in the city.
Much of this can be attributed to the efforts made by Cape Town’s Air Access Team, an initiative driven by Wesgro – a project driving economic growth in the Western Cape.
However, higher tourist numbers are also being reported across the country.
Another prominent hotel in Durban is also expected to reopen soon.
CAPE TOWN HOTELS
The city is indeed home to some of the best hotels in South Africa and the African continent.
The reopening of the Cullinan Hotel Cape Town is positive news for the local economy and all guests and travellers to the city.
The Cullinan Hotel belongs to the Southern Sun Group. Southern Sun is a South African multinational hospitality company with head offices in Johannesburg.
In 1999, Southern Sun acquired a 50% interest in a consortium with Liberty Group Limited, called The Cullinan Hotel Proprietary Limited, which owned three hotels.
CULLINAN HOTEL CAPE TOWN
Visitors staying at the Cullinan Hotel will enjoy revamped facilities and its fresh new look.
Moreover, the hotel has undergone major interior design changes that combine classical styling with fresh contemporary elements.
Refurbished guest rooms, public areas and enhanced dining options mean that The Cullinan Cape Town is ready to host guests from near and far.
“The Cullinan has always been a symbol of elegance and luxury. Our goal with this refurbishment was to honour our heritage while embracing the future. We believe we have succeeded in creating a space that offers both timeless beauty and contemporary comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests old and new to experience the enhanced Cullinan,” said Jacques Moolman, the hotel’s General Manager, per TravelNews.
CULLINAN DIAMOND
In fact, the hotel shares the same name as the largest diamond in recorded history. The Cullinan Diamond was found in a mine located in Gauteng Province.
The diamond is indeed the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever to have been found.
It was discovered at the Premier No.2 mine in Cullinan on 26 January 1905.
That said, the diamond weighing 3 106 carats (621.20 g) was named after Thomas Cullinan, who was the owner of the mine at the time.
