Why did Jaco Peyper join the Springboks?
Jaco Peyper joins the Springboks in an effort to ease World Rugby relations and ensure compliance on behalf of the South African side.
The reigning Rugby World Cup champions, the Springboks, have made a shrewd move by adding Jaco Peyper to their management team.

Peyper, a former international referee, has a critical mandate: improve communication and understanding between the Boks, match officials, and World Rugby.
JACO PEYPER AND THE PAST: MENDING FENCES
Historically, there’s been tension between Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus and World Rugby. However, the South African side has put significant effort into mending fences and showcasing on-field discipline since Erasmus’s past suspensions.

Erasmus, in his role as rugby director, understands the value of insider knowledge. Prior to their World Cup win, they attempted to bring Nigel Owens into the fold.

Even though Owens was unavailable, the Boks gained valuable insights from Erasmus’s discussions with him.
JACO PEYPER’S UNIQUE ROLE
Before the last World Cup, Jaco Peyper assisted the team in an informal capacity while still an active referee. Now retired, he fills that advisor role on a permanent basis. This is seen as a shrewd move for the defending champions.
