What we know about Nasreddine Nabi’s move to Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have expressed interest in Tunisian coach, Nareddine Nabi. Here is everything we know about the ongoing talks between them,
Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their interest in Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi. Here’s the state of play as things stand.
NABI’S RELEASE CLAUSE REVEALED
Soccer-Laduma reported that Amakhosi are willing to pay Nabi’s R5 million buy-out clause. That would release him from his FAR Rabat contract expiring in June 2025.
“You know he (Nabi) signed a two-year contract with AS Far but it has a buyout clause because he was also looking at the possibility of moving to another team before the end of the two-year contract. Now Kaizer Chiefs are ready to meet that buyout clause which stands at around R5 million. If you look at that amount it’s nothing in South African football standard. Not for a player and not even for a coach and Chiefs won’t have a problem paying that to get the coach. So for now, that’s what they are looking at and everything seems to be in order.” said SL’s source.
KAIZER CHIEFS RELAX CRITERIA FOR NEW BOSS
According to SoccerLaduma and their latest reports, Amakhosi top brass have reignited their pursuit of Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi after reaching an apparent impasse in negotiations with him at the first time of asking. Initial talks broke down because of his insistence on bringing his technical staff with him. However, the Chiefs board now sounds relaxed on that issue. It was previously reported that Nabi wanted his own assistant coach, strength & conditioning coach, fitness trainer and goalkeeping coach.
“You see last time the main problem with coach Nabi was him bringing in those four backroom staff with him. But now that the club has changed their mind about such coaches they have opened up the door again for Nabi to come and join the team if he is still interested. It will all depend on the offer that can take him out of his present job in Morocco. But last time he was ready to coach Chiefs and I hope he still has that desire to come to South Africa” a source indicated.
.
“The uncertainty of the club getting Manqoba (Mngqithi) has also played a part in the team looking at Nabi again. They feel that they should have that five shortlisted number still intact. Whether they will hire from those five or not, they want to have a solid basis where to start looking even before the season ends. They want to be one step ahead this time around,” the source concluded.
This could be a critical development in any potential deal.
SERIAL WINNER FITS THE BILL
It’s been widely reported that Amakhosi want to hire a new head coach at the end of the campaign. FAR Rabat boss Nasredine Nabi is near the top of their shortlist. The Moroccon outfit is flying in their domestic league. They’ve got 58 points after 24 rounds and lead Raja Casablanca by four points in what is seemingly a two-horse race for the Moroccan Botola Pro 1 title. Tunisian tactician Nabi is accustomed to success and has been in talks with Amakhosi already. Flirtations between the two parties started at the outset of this season but a deal broke down because of Nabi’s demands. The 58-year-old enjoyed rich success with Tanzanian giants Yanga SC, astonishingly winning back-to-back trebles.
