TALENT REWARDED
Nyoni, who was born four days before the legendary Fernando Torres signed for Liverpool in 2007, signed for the Reds in September from Championship side Leicester City. Shortly after being promoted to the under-21s in early November, he received a call-up by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, Klopp was full of praise for his youthful side.
“It was an incredible game,” he said. “Southampton are a top side, our midfield press was not quite right. For 15 minutes we were all over and Saints could have scored but we found our way, scored a wonderful goal.
“Koumas is a fantastic finisher, Dannsy we knew he’s a good finisher too. He’s really calm in that situation – it’s proof of his nose, he’s in the right spot, he arrives there.
Klopp added: “The whole event was pretty special. We don’t always want to make it about the horribly difficult situation but for some reason there’s a real positive mood about it all anyway.”
