Born on March 3, 2000, in Cape Town, Luke Fleurs began his football journey at just 13 years old. Joining the prestigious academy of Ubuntu Cape Town. He swiftly rose through the ranks, showcasing his defensive prowess in the National First Division at a mere 17 years of age. His standout performances earned him a coveted long-term deal with SuperSport United in 2018. Solidifying his place in the South African Premier Division.

KAIZER CHIEFS NEW SIGNING: A NEW CHAPTER

In October 2023, Fleurs embarked on a new chapter, signing with the esteemed Kaizer Chiefs. With a two-year contract and an option for an additional year. He set his sights on leaving a lasting legacy on the pitch. His move to one of South Africa’s premier football clubs signalled a new era in his promising career. But he never made a single appearance unfortunately. 

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION AND ASPIRATIONS

Beyond his domestic success, Fleurs represented South Africa at the under-20 level. Also received call-ups to the prestigious Bafana Bafana squad in 2021 and 2022. While he did not feature in any matches, his inclusion highlighted his potential on the international stage.

KAIZER CHIEFS NEW SIGNING TRAGIC END TO A PROMISING CAREER

On Wednesday night, tragedy struck as Fleurs stopped at a petrol station in Honeydew, Johannesburg. Armed individuals confronted him during a hijacking attempt. One assailant fatally shot him in the upper body, causing the perpetrators to flee the scene. This tragic event ended the life of a promising talent prematurely.

INVESTIGATION AND APPEAL FOR INFORMATION:

Gauteng police have launched a murder and carjacking investigation. Urging anyone with information to come forward. Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has deployed a team of detectives to apprehend the suspects. Seeking justice for Fleurs and his loved ones.

As the football community mourns the loss of Luke Donn Fleurs, his legacy as a promising talent and cherished member of Ubuntu Football, SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs lives on.
