Teko Modise highlights major issues at Kaizer Chiefs
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star, Teko Modise has explained why Kaizer Chiefs has struggled so much.
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise has explained how Kaizer Chiefs can return to their winning ways.
The Glamour Boys are now entering their 10th season without silverware.
Having last won a trophy in 2015, Amakhosi have changed coaches eight times since but failed to win titles.
Modise, one of the ambassadors for the Nedbank Cup, has never played for Kaizer Chiefs during his playing career.
The ex-Bafana Bafana star revealed he had a chance to join Amakhosi but Pirates made an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Speaking to Phakaaathi, Teko Modise explained issues affecting Kaizer Chiefs.
“Chiefs have changed coaches. In the last two seasons, they have had three different coaches and three different styles of play,” he said.
“I think the biggest thing that needs to happen at Kaizer Chiefs is to go back to the culture of what Kaizer Chiefs is … the way Kaizer Chiefs play,” Modise added.
“It’s something we have not seen in a long time and that means maybe they need to find the coach that will instil this kind of play and the players that will buy into it.”
Modise also said the club needed to bring back club legends to the bench.

“I also think that what might help is to have people on the bench that understand the Black and Gold, players that have played for the club and won trophies with the club.
“That will remind the players about the importance of winning trophies. You need to have legends closer to the club if you want to succeed because there’s certain information that coaches are unable to get to the players, but legends can,” he told Phakaaathi.
Modise grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs however he never fulfilled his dream of wearing the ‘Black and Gold’ colours.
After his successful three and a half seasons at Pirates, the ‘Navigator‘ joined Sundowns in 2011. With Masandawana, he won two league titles and the CAF Champions League, cementing his status as a club legend.
