Sundowns close in on two long-standing Chiefs league records
Mamelodi Sundowns could equal one league record, and surpass another, which were previously held by Kaizer Chiefs.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ next game will be against Stellenbosch on Wednesday, September 27, at Loftus Versfeld, and the match holds some extra importance when it comes to key records.

Sundowns’ last league win against Orlando Pirates saw the Brazilians record a 31-game run without a loss, having last been defeated in the league in September 2022 against SuperSport United.
The unbeaten record was previously held by Chiefs when they picked up 15 wins and 16 draws to write their name into the league’s history books back in 2005, but Sundowns can set a new unbeaten streak as long as they can avoid defeat against Stellenbosch.

Kaizer Chiefs hold the current record having won their first eight matches to kick off the 2014/15 season.
Mamelodi Sundowns can now also tie that record when they next host Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday at 19:30, and should Rhulani Mokwena’s side win that clash, they could claim the record in their ninth match away against Royal AM on Tuesday, 3 October at 17:00.
