As documented in the first episode of Chasing The Sun 2, Rassie Erasmus’ gave the Springboks a rollicking speech at half-time in the RWC semi-final against England.
The first episode of Chasing The Sun 2 aired on Sunday night and it opened and closed with Erasmus dropping an f-bomb.
In addition to that, a big chunk of the middle part was also filled with profanities, mostly uttered by Erasmus.
While the episode focused on the Springboks’ preparation for the opening match of the tournament against Scotland and the Test itself in Marseille; one of the more poignant scenes depicted in the hour-long episode was Erasmus’ unconventional method of getting his team fired up for the second half of the semi-final against England.
One of the opening scenes in the Chasing The Sun 2 takes viewers back to the 2023 Rugby World Cup semi-finals when the Springboks found themselves trailing England 12-6 after an error-prone first-half performance in a wet-weather match.
Erasmus, then still director of rugby, entered the changeroom unhappy with his side’s inability to fire any shots at their opponents. In an excerpt from his half-time talk, he made his feelings known in no uncertain terms.
“You gave the f*cking penalty away and you promised you wouldn’t. You promised you were going to play like it’s your last f*cking game as a group together. But you lied. You’re a f*cking liar.”

Apart from that expletive-laden opening scene, Erasmus also spewed a few home truths at his Springboks squad, one of which was an indirect jibe at the South African government.
“We are the only thing that works in South Africa,” Erasmus could be heard yelling during Chasing The Sun 2.
This bold statement encapsulates the immense pressure and responsibility the Springboks carry on their shoulders as they strive to unite and uplift a nation through rugby.
Not one to overlook his own shortcomings and mistakes, Erasmus’ vulnerability shines through as he apologises for his handling of the controversial Nick Berry incident during the 2021 British ab, admitting “I f**ked it up.”
This moment of introspection humanises the often-fiery coach, showcasing his growth and determination to learn from past mistakes. “I f**ked it up and I apologised,” Erasmus reflects, revealing a side of himself rarely seen by the public.
