Stofberg, 68, played 21 Tests for the Springboks between 1976 and 1984, scoring six tries. He was part of the infamous Springbok tour to New Zealand in 1981.
At provincial level, Stofberg represented the Orange Free State, Northern Transvaal and Western Province.
He holds the distinction of being one of only two players to win the Currie Cup with three different unions – Free State (1976), Blue Bulls (1979 and 1980) and Western Province (1982 and 1983).
The other player is Duane Vermeulen who tasted success with Free State (2007), Western Province (2012) and the Blue Bulls (2020/21).
The South African website and it’s sister publications extends its thoughts and best wishes for a full recovery to Stofberg and his family and friends.
