The official match statistics from last Saturday’s Soweto derby have been revealed – and they paint an ugly picture for Kaizer Chiefs.
Not only, as reported by the SAPeople website, did Amakhosi blow a lead on two occasions, but they also suffered just their second ever league ‘double’ defeat to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in losing 3-2 at the FNB Stadium.
The Buccaneers had triumphed 1-0 in the corresponding fixture in November 2023.
The Glamour Boys opened the scoring in the sixth minute thanks to a goal by Ashley du Preez.
The Buccaneers equalised through Monnapule Saleng in the 24th minute only for Amakhosi to reclaim the lead through Du Preez on the stroke of half-time.
Orlando Pirates got back on level terms for a second time through Thabiso Lebitso (58th minute), before they took the lead for the first time in the match thanks to a second goal from Saleng (68th minute).
The three points moved Orlando Pirates into second place in the DStv Premiership standings, while Kaizer Chiefs dropped to seventh spot.
Orlando Pirates came out on top on the scoreboard – and a closer look at the match stats shows they were well-deserved winners.
