The Sharks are considered frontrunners to bag the signature of RG Snyman but the Bulls and Stormers are also keen.

Rugby World Cup hero RG Snyman might be back playing in South Africa sooner rather than later.

Snyman’s contract with Munster expires at the end of the season.

BOK STAR TO LEAVE MUNSTER

Snyman arrived at Munster in 2020, however, he has suffered from multiple injuries during his time there. As a result, he is expected to leave the team at the end of the 2023–2024 season, when his contract is up.

His injury problems haven’t stopped either; after the World Cup final triumph against New Zealand, he suffered a pectoral muscle injury that would require four to six months of recovery.

Snyman was hugely influential on the park during Munster’s title run alongside fellow Springbok Jean Kleyn.

SHARKS LEADING THE RACE TO SIGN SPRINGBOK

Snyman might feel that his injury situation lends itself to a return hom where franchises would be less demanding of the man who can already lay claim to being a Springbok legend.

The Sharks already have Eben Etzebeth on their books and bagging the best No 5 in the world to go long with the best No 4 would be a coup for them.

Afrikaans newspaper, Rapport, who have an extensive network of sources within South African rugby suggest that several South African teams are in the hunt for Snyman.

Snyman is a former Bulls player who came through the age-group ranks at Loftus having been a standout schoolboy at Affies.

The Stormers may be in a financial pickle over the ongoing administration of their parent union by SA Rugby however, the news that they have secured equity funding may change that picture.

Also a factor for the Stormers is the departure of Springbok lock Marvin Orie for Perpignan in France.

It would appear likely that the Sharks would be willing to pay the highest fee right now given they have just been paid an extraordinary sum to release Siya Kolisi to Racing 92.
