Kaizer Chiefs youth player Samkelo Zwane has turned heads this season after being invited to train with the first team.

Zwane has a famous father in Orlando Pirates legend Eugene Zwane, but the instruction he received from his dad was to try and emulate Manchester United and England star Paul Scholes.

In a recent interview, Eugene revealed that he has long worked with his son to ensure that he has grown up steeped in a passing game.

Samkelo Zwane made a memorable first-team debut against Golden Arrows and is tipped for glory.

If it comes to fruition, it will be the result of years of work and dedication.

“I started teaching him how to pass from a distance when he was young,” Eugene told Isolezwe.

“I wanted him to reach the level of Paul Scholes.

He added: “I still encourage him that if there is an opportunity to display this skill, he should use it.

“But most of the time he plays simple passes. He will learn the rest as the years go by and he gets experience.”

THE NEXT STAR

That work seems to be paying off with the young man tipped to replace Njabulo Blom in the Kaizer Chiefs midfield.

Blom had been the previous bright young thing and benefitted from his promotion to the first team.

He was the standout during a difficult period for the club and his development was a bonus for the national team as well.

Now Samkelo Zwane has his chance to step up and impress and perhaps become the Paul Scholes of Soweto.
