SAFA denies Hugo Broos’ links with move to Tunisia
SAFA has continued to deny rumours linking Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos with a move to a new coaching job in Tunisia.
Hugo Broos is set to remain with Bafana Bafana until his contract ends in 2026, the South African Football Association (SAFA) reiterated.
This comes after the Belgian coach was linked with a move to Tunisia.
According to reports, Broos is set to replace Jalel Kadri as the country’s football coach following their poor Afcon campaign.
The former Cameroon coach steered Bafana to a third-place finish at this year’s Afcon however, just days later, he was rumoured to be leaving South Africa.
According to Mosaïque FM, Broos was set to dump Bafana for the 2004 Afcon champions.
Safa has responded to the claims and insists Broos was staying as Bafana’s coach.
“The coach answered this very same question during a Zoom press briefing with South African media a couple of days ago, and nothing has changed. We are at training at the match venue as we speak,” SAFA’s head of communications told IOL Sport on Monday.
Last month, Hugo Broos was also linked to a job in Belgium at Club Brugge.
SAFA DENIES BROOS LINK TO TUNISIAN JOB BUT…
The 71-year-old has denied having negotiations with other teams, saying he was dedicated to the Bafana job.
“There is nothing,” Broos said last month.
“I said already after Afcon that if you do well with a team automatically there is interest in you as a coach.
“I heard rumours Algeria was interested, Tunisia was interested and some other teams, also Brugge now. But again there are no negotiations.”
BROOS MIGHT LEAVE BAFANA BAFANA BEFORE HIS CONTRACT EXPIRES
Although Safa claims nothing has changed regarding Broos’ contract, it appears that the 71-year-old coach might be weighing his options.
He lately revealed that he almost resigned from his position after Bafana’s 5-0 defeat to France in 2022.
