HOW SPRINGBOK FANS CAN STAY CALM DURING THE RUGBY WORLD CUP FINAL
Staying calm under pressure comes with experience, and thankfully the Springbok side announced by Jacques and Rassie is the most experienced in SA history. However, there are six other techniques they and all Springbok fans can use on the night, says Calm.com.
1. STAY IN THE ‘NOW’
Looking too far ahead and getting lost in ‘what-ifs’ is easy when you’re stressed about a big game. Instead, Springbok fans can stay calm during the RWC final by focusing on and enjoying the present. The Springbok team have said it repeatedly during this World Cup, it’s not about the result, the Springboks play for one another. This gives them control in difficult situation.
2. DEEP BREATHS
If things look like they’re are spiralling out of control, simply take a step back. Take in a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds, and exhale slowly. This will lower your heart rate and encourage you to relax. Remember, we’ve got this, it’s not over till the final whistle.

3. PLAN FOR THE WORST, EXPECT THE BEST
Even if you’re stressed and under pressure, there’s no reason to expect the worst. Springbok fans can stay calm during the RWC Final by visualising the scenario playing out positively. Visualisation is a powerful technique used by the Boks to prepare and boost their confidence. You can do the same when the chips are down.
4. TAKE A TIMEOUT AT HALFTIME
Make the most of the halftime break to step away from the game and reduce your stress levels. Find a quiet corner, take a walk outside for some fresh air. A moment’s mindfulness will clear any mental clutter, so you can stay focused for the rest of the final.

5. ONE TASK AT A TIME
We know it’s hard, you’re probably with your mates, but you’re also texting family and friends who are far away. This sort of scattered multi-tasking is a killer. Put the phone down and focus all your attention on the game. This will help keep your heartrate down and your mind sharp.
6. ACKNOWLEDGE AND PROCESS
Keep it real. It’s a RWC Final against the All Blacks, it’s okay to feel stressed! Acknowledge and process that. The only wrong thing is to lose your cool and let those feelings dictate your actions and responses. Doing this is the key to Springbok fans staying calm during the RWC final.
