However, Pool B is shaping up to be a severe test for Jacques Nienaber’s men.

Much has been written about the timing of the draw of the four pools, and World Rugby has taken note and will conduct future draws closer to the tournament rather than 12 months out.

The Springboks, who are fourth in the latest World Rugby rankings, have been drawn alongside top-ranked Ireland, fifth-placed Scotland, 15th-ranked Tonga and 19th-placed Romania.
Only the top two sides in each of the four pools will progress to the quarter-finals.
