Ronwen Williams replaces Khune as Mzansi’s finest
Ronwen Williams was instrumental in Bafana Bafana impressive performance at AFCON. His stellar performance has earned him star credit.
South Africa have had some brilliant goalkeepers over the years but it’s Itumeleng Khune whose name topped the list. That was before Ronwen Williams took centre stage.

Khune owned Mzansi’s No.1 jersey for years since making his international debut in 2008, even Ronwen Williams broke into setup.
However, Williams is firmly in control now and no South African goalkeeper comes close to him, especially after this recent Afcon tournament.

In years of Khune’s international career, he’s never done and achieved what Williams has, and that simply puts the Mamelodi Sundowns ‘keeper ahead.

Williams became the first goalkeeper to stop four penalties in a single shootout in the history of Afcon against Cape Verde.
But most importantly, he became the first Bafana Bafana goalkeeper to keep five clean sheets at a single Afcon tournament.
Williams surpassed Andre Arendse’s record of four clean sheets at a single Afcon tournament when Clive Barker’s men lifted the trophy in 1996.
And Khune never achieved that in his entire international career. He could only keep two clean sheets at the 2013 Afcon tournament on home soil.

RONWEN WILLIAMS NAMED BEST GOALKEEPER AT 2023 AFCON
To run salt to the wound, Williams won the Golden Glove award after being named the best goalkeeper at the 2023 Afcon tournament.
He beat a strong competition from Chippa United and Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali who kept four clean sheets at the tournament.
