South Africans have been sending prayers and messages of support to Johannesburg-born Burnley FC striker Lyle Foster who has taken a break from football due to mental health struggles.

PRAYERS FOR LYLE FOSTER
The English Premier League (EPL) side issued a statement on behalf of the 23-year-old soccer star on Thursday, 9 November, announcing his hiatus.
“On behalf of Lyle Foster and his family they have asked us to share with you an update on Lyle’s illness,” read the statement in part.

The Clarets revealed that Foster recently disclosed that he continues to live with issues around his mental well-being, subsequently reaching out help.
“He is currently in the care of specialists – giving him the support and care he needs to help him back to full health.
“With the love and support of his family and everyone at Burnley Football Club we will do all we can to provide everything he needs to get better.
“We ask for your understanding and respect Lyle’s privacy around this matter and will not be making any more comment until further notice.”

FIVE-YEAR DEAL
Foster officially joined Vincent Kompany’s side in January this year and helped the club to promotion to the Premier League. He has scored three goals in eight games so far this season.
Last month, he penned a new five-year contract with the club; extending his stay at Turf Moor until June 2028.

“I’m very happy to stay here. It’s a Club with very good people and I have really enjoyed working here and I’m pleased to extend my stay.
“The supporters, Turf Moor, everything here. The way we organise ourselves and our standards something I fell in love with.
“It’s a club that pushes towards excellence and that’s something I want to be a part of,” he said.
