The 29-year-old edged Shalulile and Fiston Mayele to become the first South African footballer to win the prestigious award for his superb performances last season.
The award is bestowed upon the best player playing in Africa, and Tau won the gong after leading Al Ahly to the CAF Champions League title last season.
Tau scored five goals and set up five more, which made him the top scorer in the competition (excluding preliminary rounds), while also winning the Egyptian Premier League and the Egyptian Super Cup in 2022/23.
