Orlando Pirates linked to five star players
Orlando Pirates have shared their plans to bolster their attacking in the new season and have been linked to five star attackers since then.
Orlando Pirates are openly keen to improve their attacking options next season. They’ll face competition from Kaizer Chiefs for some of their reported targets.
ORLANDO PIRATES WISH LIST IS GROWING
Oswin Appollis, Freddy Kouablan, Elias Mokwana, Shaune Mogaila and Lehlohonolo Mejola, among others, have all been linked with a Sea Robbers switch. 22-year-old Appollis, recently part of the Bafana group at Afcon, has four goals in 18 league appearances this term for unfashionable Polokwane City.
ORLANDO PIRATES AND KAIZER CHIEFS CIRCLE FOR BAFANA BAFANA STAR
Pirates and Chiefs are interested in Appollis and they’ll be glad to hear that a large offer might tempt Polokwane into selling their prized asset.
“And the good thing for them, or any other interested club, is that Polokwane City is open to selling,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
“The club won’t stand in the player’s way and for them, it will be a matter of cashing in.
“This applies to any player that they were taking a chance on when signing. Appollis is a talented youngster with a lot of potential, but at the time of his signing, he needed a fresh start. He needed that in the big league, and Polokwane City was willing to offer him that opportunity. He has done well, and the club won’t stand in his way if there is an opportunity for him to grow further.”
PIRATES TO RIVAL KAIZER CHIEFS FOR IVORIAN STRIKER KOUABLAN
According to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs want to sign Ivorian striker Freddy Michael Kouablan who’s contracted with Simba SC in Tanzania. Orlando Pirates have also thrown their hat into the ring.
“Yes, it’s true it is the same player that Pirates have been monitoring. That was when he was still in Zambia, but he moved to Tanzania in January. Chiefs are also believed to have shown interest and enquired about him. He is a very good striker and I believe he can fit in any team that could get him. So for now, both teams have shown interest in him (Kouablan).” said a source who also believes Simba are willing to sell.
KAIZER CHIEFS TARGET MOKWANA HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR PIRATES
24-year-old Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana has shone this term with four goals and three assists in 15 league appearances. He’s in the latest Bafana squad for friendlies against Algeria and Andorra. Mokwana arrived at Babina Noko from Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Platinum City Rovers in 2022. He was also on the Afcon standby list. According to The Citizen, Mokwana has always admired Chiefs but has admitted to having a soft spot for Sowetor rivals Pirates. Will that be a problem?
According to the source, the Glamour Boys are favourites if the Glamour Boys table a satisfactory offer to the player. Mokwana would prefer a switch to Naturena as that might guarantee him more playing time in the first team compared to Pirates where the competition for places is arguably fiercer. A move to Chiefs would, in theory at least, make his long-term Bafana prospects stronger.
