NABI WANTS A PROLIFIC STRIKER TO FIRE KAIZER CHIEFS UP

Amakhosi scored a dismal 25 goals in 30 league encounters last term. Now, signing a brand new striker is no guarantee that those numbers will skyrocket (just ask Jasond Gonzalez). However, the newest name linked with a switch has been working with Nabi. There should be some chemistry there.

According to UnplayableZA on X, Nasreddine Nabi has zeroed in on Tumisang Orebonye as his first potential signing as head coach at Naturena. The 28-year-old striker plays under Nabi at FAR Rabat and has 40 caps for the Botswana National team alongside Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. The prolific hitman has four goals and an assist from 15 league appearances in 2023-2024. That’s a healthy ratio of direct goal contributions. The player will also cost absolutely nothing as he joined FAR on a six-month loan deal. If he hits the ground running and puts the ball in the net, Amakhosi fans will start loving Nabi for his talent ID abilities.

MOTHIBA IN TALKS WITH AMAKHOSI?

Lebo Mothiba is no longer a Strasbourg player after his six-year stint with the Alsace club came to an end. Soccer-Laduma believes negotiations between Mothiba’s representatives and Kaizer Chiefs are moving along nicely; the player was even spotted at Naturena. Mothiba has 14 caps for South Africa and four goals, but his last appearance in national colours was in October 2023. Amazingly, he’s the only man in Bafana history to score in his first three appearances in the national team.

DA CRUZ JOINS THE PARTY

Fernando Da Cruz will join the Nabi revolution at Kaizer Chiefs, according to SABC Sport. 52-year-old Da Cruz has an interesting background, having played professional futsal for France, collecting 55 caps. From a coaching perspective, he’s taken assistant charge of Wasquehal in France and Mouscron in Belgium, before getting the top job at the latter in 2014. From there, he took charge of the Lille B side and ran scouting operations for a team famous for its recruitment of top talent and player sales with enormous profits. Most recently, he’s been the assistant at AS Far, Nasreddine Nabi’s club. Nabi is expected to officially sign a deal with Chiefs this week, and then we’ll certainly be hearing more about Mr Da Cruz, who has experience working with Nicolas Pepe and Eden Hazard. He also helped develop Arsenal’s commanding Brazilian centre back Gabriel.

WHY NASREDDINE NABI COULD BE THE RIGHT GUY

FAR Rabat came just short of winning the Botolo Pro 1 League title last term by a single point. Raja Casablanca, under Josef Zinnbauer, pipped the,m to the post. Nabi is no stranger to success though, having steered his old side Young Africans to successive trebles. Last season his FAR side scored 65 goals in the league, 17 more than any other side. He’s committed to entertaining football, sometimes at a cost, but Chiefs fans will be ready to take that gamble.

When quizzed on FAR’s scoring exploits back in March, he cited two key reasons:

“The first is that we have high-calibre strikers and midfielders who can give the team a scoring boost.

“The second reason is related to the offensive tendency I rely on. I always focus on this approach in my style, and it is a given that I have adopted in my previous experiences.

“Sometimes I even take risks at the expense of the defence, even if that costs me goals because I am looking for scoring, and these goals are what increase the value of matches and the team as a whole, and the display aspect is also important in football,” he concluded.
