Percy Tau emerged as a target for the Brazilians following Rhulani Mokwena’s recent admission that his team needs a quality striker.
This comes after Peter Shalulile missed a few important matches for Sundowns due to injury which somehow exposed their weakness upfront.

Now, Tau has told Mozzart Sport that he’s still contracted to Al Ahly for the next two seasons, and that he’s hoping for more success with the Egyptian giants.

As things stand, Sundowns have had to rely on new signing Lucas Ribeiro Costa for goals, and Tau was believed to be the man to help ease that pressure.
However, Tau is seemingly still happy at Al Ahly whom he won five trophies with last season, and that could see Sundowns shift their focus elsewhere.

“I have a contract with Al Ahly until June 2025,” said Tau as per FARPost.
“We won five trophies last year, and we’ll try to do it again this year. I’m happy to be competing for major trophies, Al Ahly is a big club that always tries to win.”

Mamelodi Sundowns recently won the big race to re-sign Bongani Zungu upon his return from Europe but that may not happen with Tau.

The difference is that Zungu was a free agent after parting ways with French side Amiens SC, and had a chance to choose between coming back home and staying in Europe.

With Tau, Sundowns may have to break the bank to lure him back to Chloorkop, but Al Ahly may not even entertain that as they rate the Bafana Bafana attacker highly.
