MAMELODI SUNDOWNS EYE VELDWIJK SIGNING
Recently, Sundowns were rumoured to be involved in a race with Orlando Pirates to try to secure the services of Congolese striker Andy Boyeli. Boyeli is a striker who currently plies his trade in the Zambian league for Power Dynamos. It was further reported, however, that the Buccaneers had been advancing in that deal, and the Brazilians would be looking at other options. It now seems to be rather accurate, as according to iDiski Times, Sundowns have offered Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk a contract.

“iDiski Times understands Masandwana have tabled an offer for the seven-time capped Bafana Bafana striker who last featured for the country back at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Sundowns view him as a potential striker to add a new dimension to their attack and further depth with Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa taking the bulk of the load. With Veldwijk being able to register as a local, and Abubeker Nasir likely to head out on loan in the current January transfer window – the signing could provide the solutions for the second half of the season. However, no official agreement has yet been reached with the Brazilian’s and Veldwijk’s representatives,” wrote the publication.

Veldwijk has been a bit of a nomad since his last appearance for Bafana Bafana, having played both in the Dutch and Korean top-flights. He has also turned out in English football for now Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest. Wherever he has gone, he has garnered a reputation for scoring goals, with his record of 154 in 382 games a good indicator of that and perhaps a reason why Sundowns have looked in the 32-year-old’s direction.
