Mamelodi Sundowns look to turn Loftus Versfeld yellow, green and blue

Mamelodi Sundowns are overwhelming favourites to book their place in the CAF Champions League semi-finals in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against CR Belouizdad at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 29 April.

Kick-off is at 15:00.

Masandawana hold a 4-1 lead after the first leg in Algeria and will be hoping their fans turn out in their droves to support them.

Mamelodi Sundowns ran rampant in Algiers last weekend with Peter Shalulile’s record-breaking brace and goals from Neo Maema and Cassius Mailula giving the Brazilians a dominant lead halfway through the tie.

Yet despite their strong position, coach Rhulani Mokwena insists that the job is only half done.

“Stranger things have happened in football [than a comeback from 4-1 down]. There is a lot of humility, we beat a very good side that we still have to face in Pretoria but it is only halfway.”

‘IT IS THE QUARTER-FINAL OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE’

He added, “I don’t have to have an opinion about the opposition because I have to give a lot of respect to their technical team. Also out of respect for the fact that it is only the halfway mark of the tie.

“It is the quarter-final of the Champions League, it is tough and we should be under no illusions that the scoreline represents how physical and demanding this game was for us.”

The eventual winners will take on either Tanzania’s Simba SC or Moroccan heavyweights and current CAF Champions League title holders Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals.

Simba SC hold a 1-0 advantage heading into the second leg in Morocco on Friday at 21:00 (SA time).
