South African entrepreneur and inspiring speaker MARK SHAM has shared five important lessons that were learnt on Saturday night at the Rugby World Cup semi-final in Paris – where England led throughout most of the match, only to have victory snatched from under their noses by the Springboks in the 11th hour, with the final score being 15-14 to South Africa. And it is SA that survives to meet New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup Final.

Mark says the game, and finish (which he still can’t get over!) are the ultimate metaphor for South Africa as a nation. “How many times has this country been written off?” asks Mark. “How many times does a hero (or 23) step up and save us? I keep telling people, the future of this country hasn’t been decided yet πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦β€οΈ.”

As Mark says there are many lessons to learn what transpired, but here are five of the most important, in his words.

βœ… We had no right to win that game and then we did anyway. Even when things looked dire, there was clearly still a belief by a select few that we could turn things around and we did.

βœ… The politicians aren’t coming to save this country. We have to step up collectively to do it.

βœ… Even when we win two games in a row like this, there will be those who somehow pluck negativity from thin air. You can’t please these people, even if the Boks had a full squad of black players and you gave every South African a golden toilet seat, someone would still complain 🀣

βœ… There are politicians who do everything to break this country down and then jump in to celebrate the victory as if they somehow had something to do with it. Case in point: Fikile Mbalula πŸ–•

βœ… Say what you like but England executed their game plan to perfection. I don’t think they lost the game, I think we won it!

Mark adds:

“PS. I am going to bath in the tears of all those sour country singer rugby pundits from Europe/Aus/NZ this morning. I’m going to add their tears to my cereal. It’s the fragrance I’m going to wear all day. We are in the Rugby World Cup final 🀣

“PPS. Someone said that Ox and Pollard shouldn’t have to pay tax ever again and I’m all for it.”
