Khanyisa Mayo stays committed to Cape Town City
Cape Town City attacker Khanyisa Mayo has reiterated his commitment to Cape Town City despite interest from PSL giants Kaizer Chifs
Cape Town City attacker Khanyisa Mayo is not interested in joining either of Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns.
It has been no secret that both Chiefs and Sundowns were interested in Mayo’s services ahead of this season.
But Mayo opted to sign a long-term contract extension at City, effectively ruling out any chance of a move. Chairman of the club John Comitis even went as far as slapping a whopping R38 million price tag on the player. In the end, that took him out of the range of both Chiefs and Sundowns. The Brazilians are no strangers to paying even upwards of R40 million for players their targets. But in the case of the left-footed wizard, they probably did not feel he was worth that amount.
On the side of Chiefs, their sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr went onto national radio admitting interest in Mayo. Motaung went as far as detailing a conversation he had with Comitis who categorically stated that the player was not for sale. That seems to be where the pursuit ended on both sides, as the player committed himself to the City cause. Having done so, an insider has made a startling revelation as to why that was the case.
KHANYISA MAYO DID NOT WANT TO JOIN CHIEFS OR SUNDOWNS
“Cape Town City has given Mayo a good offer, Everybody was expecting him to join one of the overseas clubs. But there’s still plenty of time for him to go, he is still got time, he is young. He extended with City because he didn’t want to join Sundowns and Chiefs, though I don’t know what might be the reason.” Said the source to KickOff.com
Mayo, who won the DStv Premiership Golden Boot award last season, is on course to complete a double. He currently has eight goals to his name and will be looking to boost his tally well into double figures. With the price tag probably set to go higher in that case, it remains to be seen if Chiefs or Sundowns will reignite their interest.
