Fresh reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs are set to resume their pursuit of forrmer Yanga FC coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Nabi was strongly linked with Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the current term, but the deal was not concluded.
Cavin Johnson is not long for the head coach job and these new reports are of great interest.
KAIZER CHIEFS RE-IGNITE INTEREST IN NABI
At the time, it was reported that Nabi and Kaizer Chiefs could not agree on personal terms.
Nabi’s Caf experience made him a particularly attractive candidate for a club chasing glory.
His personal requests were the sticking point for the club though. Now it seems that Kaizer Chiefs could reconsider.
“You see last time the main problem with coach Nabi was him bringing in those four backroom staff with him,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
“But now that the club has changed their mind on such coaches they have opened up the door again for Nabi to come and join the team of course if he is still interested. It will all depends on the offer that can take him out of his present job in Morocco. But last time he was ready to coach Chiefs and I hope he still have that desire to come to South Africa.”
With Manqoba Mngqithi believed to be a top candidate, Kaizer Chiefs have needed to adjust their plans somewhat.
“The uncertainty of the club getting Manqoba (Mngqithi) has also played a part in the team looking at Nabi again. They feel that they should have that five shortlisted number still intact. Whether they will hire from that five or not, but they want to have a solid basis where to start looking even before the season ends. They want to be one step ahead this time around.”
Kaizer Chiefs reportedly have a five-man coach shortlist. Pitso Mosimane and Mngqithi are among those. Mosimane has been flirting with the Kaizer Chiefs job for some time.
Skeptical fans of the club are not too happy with the notion of a foreign coach taking control at Kaizer Chiefs.
COACHES PITCH THEMSELVES
With Nabi and Mngqithi in the mix other coaches have tried to get a foot in the door.
Such as controversial Belgian Luc Eymael.
“We tried to discuss with Kaizer Chiefs, they knew my position, they knew my CV, I don’t know why they decided to go with Cavin Johnson,” Eymael told KickOff.
“After Cavin Johnson won some games some people started to call him a Messiah.
“Not to criticise anybody, but I think Kaizer Chiefs have a very good team this season, lacking only one or two things.
“One thing is for sure, again, it’s going to be a white season for them. They will not win any title because they can’t be league champions, Nedbank Cup they are out, they lost the Carling Cup.
“It’s been a long time now since they won any trophy.
He also said: “My work is talking for me after we succeeded at Free State Stars after 24 years of not winning any trophies.
“I have some idea for Kaizer Chiefs on how we can improve the team, only if I can be allowed to share my idea with the Chiefs board, but the board seems not to be interested in me,” the coach added.
