Rumours of Mhango joining Chiefs from AmaZulu were rapid and caught everyone by surprise, until they all suddenly disappeared into thin air.

It had become no secret that AmaZulu coach Pablo Martin did not have Mhango in his plans for the new season, and Chiefs were believed to have acted very swiftly in their attempts to secure the players signature. So quick were they’re actions, that they had the Malawian international booked for a medical, even before the rumours linking him to a move to Naturena could even start. It was thought that his medical was delayed due to a the Glamour Boys being in Botswana, taking on Township Rollers, in a friendly they lost 1-0.

Prior to that game, Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung, had confirmed that the club were, indeed looking for a new striker, but that player would not be Mhango. Not too long from that, the Former Bidvest Wits star was announced as a new Moroka Swallows signing. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, there was in fact interest from the gold and black side of Soweto and that it all fell apart at the last minute.
CHIEFS BACKTRACKED ON MHANGO
“soon after undergoing the medical, according to Siya sources, Amakhosi then informed the 30-year-old’s camp that they would no longer be signing him. Mhango’s business manager, Mike Makaab, confirmed that his client was sent for a medical as a precursor to joining the Naturena outfit, but they were notified that they would no longer proceed with the deal.” Wrote the publication.

It was at that point where Swallows decided to pounce, knowing that Mhango was no longer an option for Chiefs. Perhaps, the club decided to change their minds after reaching an agreement for Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez on a loan deal.
