Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates race to sign Bafana winger
Soweto Giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are racing neck-and-neck to sign Sekhukhune and Bafana Bafana winger.
Kaizer Chiefs want to sign Sekhukhune and Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana. However, Orlando Pirates might have something to say about all that.
KAIZER CHIEFS TARGET ‘HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR ORLANDO PIRATES
24-year-old Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana has shone this season with four goals and three assists in 15 league appearances. He’s in the latest Bafana squad for friendlies against Algeria and Andorra. Mokwana arrived at Babina Noko from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Platinum City Rovers in 2022. He was also on the Afcon standby list. According to The Citizen, Mokwana has always admired Chiefs but has admitted to having a soft spot for Pirates as well.
According to the source, the wide attacker has always been an admirer of Chiefs, though he also has a soft spot for Pirates. Right now, Chiefs are favourites if the Glamour Boys table a satisfactory offer to the player, whose desire is to be a regular starter for his country.
DECISION TIME FOR BAFANA BAFANA STAR
“It’s confusing for a player when two big teams are eager to sign him, especially if there is that one team that has your heart,” a source told the Mgosi Squad.
“But, when things like this happen you have to make a proper choice. Sometimes it’s not all about money, because you just want to see your career elevated and to be recognised. For him, it is about getting as much game time as he can and being able to feature more for Bafana,” said the source.
“What’s good is that he is only 24 years old, and any team that will be able to get him will know that they have made a good investment. He has been doing well for Sekhukhune, that’s why he has been called up to Bafana Bafana.
“In my view, a move to Chiefs will be good because they are building and if you look at the squad they have, he will be able to play. It will be difficult if he chooses Pirates, the competition is much tougher. But, he is a good player and I believe whichever team he choose he will be able to play.”
WHO IS THE REPORTED CHIEFS TARGET SHANDRE CAMPBELL?
Campbell is primarily a left-winger but can operate on the other flank or as a second striker. Born in July 2005, he’s still just 18 and one for the future, but the present looks quite promising too. He’s slowly becoming one of the hottest properties in the South African Premier Division. Former Bucs star Benedict Vilakazi has urged Kaizer Chiefs to make a move for Campbell before champions Sundowns swoop in for the talented teen. Will the Glamour Boys heed his advice? He bagged a brace in Matsatsantsa’s 3-1 win over Richards Bay sending them to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
