Kaizer Chiefs marketing manager Jessica Motaung reveals their dream to conquer the continent of Africa

Motaung speaks to SABC Sport and says Chiefs always want to conquer Africa, but admits there are challenges.

The Chiefs boss, Motaung also serves on the Caf Women’s Committee reaffirms their African dream.

Motaung looks back at Chiefs’ loss in the Champions League final loss, speaking about their dream in the continent.

This comes ahead of the second round of the season as Chiefs will look to campaign in Africa next season.

Chiefs meet Royal AM on Sunday and Motaung hopes coach Cavin Johnson will guide the club to a decent finish.

CHIEFS BOSS MOTAUNG: OUR MISSION TO CONQUER AFRICA

Motaung says Chiefs’ bigger picture and dream is to follow Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates as champions of Africa.

“The club has always taken continental football seriously, and in fact, people forget that recently, during Covid,” says Motaung about Chiefs’ dream to conquer Africa.

“We were in the [CAF Champions League] final.

“It’s a big vision of ours, and it’s something that we’re working towards, making sure we participate, and something that we’re looking at.

“Even reviving stuff like the Vodacom Challenge, making sure we have our own tournaments

“And playing against other teams on the continent – why wait only for the Champions League?

“So you’ll see a lot of developments and changes as we move along.

“But certainly a big passion of the club is to be dominant on the continent.”

The seasoned football administrator, Motaung praises the organisers of the recent Afcon tournament and all the sponsors.

She adds that the venues were of world class where Bafana Bafana finished third, sadly without any Chiefs player in Hugo Broos’ squad.

“It’s been an amazing tournament, to see the branding…” adds Chiefs boss Motaung about Afcon and their dream to conquer.

“I think what I observed is just the evolution of CAF, and to see it commercialising the way it has been.

“If you look at the sponsors they’ve pulled on board and the relationships they’ve been able to garner; the work they’ve done with the governments.

“To see them leverage the relationship with the government in Ivory Coast and make that a success has been wonderful.

“Also, the venues, it’s been great to see how African venues are changing.”

As things stand, Johnson believes they can play in Africa next season as they occupy the sixth spot with 24 points from 16 games so far.
