Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has reflected on his story as a soccer player and how money and alcohol took over his life.

The 38-year-old was a teenage sensation at Amakhosi and was often hailed as one of the country’s upcoming stars.

His soccer career was cut short due to off-field incidents.

Speaking as a guest at Bra Stan’s show ‘Sitting with bra stan’, the former Chiefs winger admitted he made mistakes in the past and spoke about alcohol, women, and fake friends.

“There was a friend of mine when I was at Kaizer Chiefs that used to hangout with me and one time, I brought six women to Naturena(Kaizer Chiefs HQ).

“I went in with my friend and six women, but I fell down the stairs because I was drunk and went to bed late.

I won’t lie, it’s in the past,” he said as per Khaya959.

Khanye said five years later, he struggled financially however the same friend who used to go out with, him closed the door on him.

The former SA U/20 winger said he was “buried” by the media early in his career due to his reputation.

“As I said I was being buried alive, compared to Brighton.

With Brighton, it was because of an injury but with me, my reputation was being dented at an early age,” the former Kaizer Chiefs man added.

People knew how good I was but they didn’t want to take me on because I’d damage their reputation.

And in SA if you get to retire at the age of 30, there’s no way they wouldn’t listen to whatever the media says.

The media can make or break you,” said Khanye.
