How much is the Springboks brand worth now?
The Springboks’ brand value is now nearly R2-billion according to the latest metrics following their World Cup triumph.
Last month the Springboks secured a stunning World Cup triumph, claiming a one-point win over New Zealand to ensure South Africa became the most successful World Cup team in history.

Following the latest season of international rugby, Brand Finance – a brand valuation consultancy – has put 5,000 of the biggest brands to the test and publishes over 100 reports, which have revealed some interesting figures when it comes to world rugby.
According to the report, the Springboks’ success has seen their brand value increase by 44% to USD117 million (ZAR1,989 billion) to become the sixth most valuable brand and fourth strongest.

In determining the strength of the brand, Brand Finance uses metrics such as marketing investment via social media, stakeholder equity, and business performance through revenues from sponsorship, merchandising, and so on.
“National rugby brands are more than just teams. They are symbols of tradition and passion. Driven by sponsorship, merchandising, and passionate fans, the surge in brand value for many of the top 10 teams, such as Ireland Rugby’s 94% increase, showcases their power,” Head of Sports Services of Brand Finance Hugo Hensley said.
