Former Stormers star wants to spoil Springboks’ World Cup party
A former Stormers turned Scotland midfielder has set his sights on the world champion Springboks when they collide at the Rugby World Cup on Sunday.
Huw Jones, who previously starred for UCT’s Ikey Tigers and the Stormers in Cape Town, has vowed to give his best to help Scotland sink the Springboks in their Pool B clash in Marseille on Sunday.

The world’s second-ranked side — South Africa — come face to face with the No 5 ranked team — Scotland — at the Stade de Marseille in Marseille this coming in what will be both countries’ opening game of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

While Scotland have five South Africans in their ranks — four players and an assistant coach —they have another player with strong ties to South Africa.
Jones, who is set to feature prominently in Scotland’s campaign, honed his rugby skills in Cape Town. At first, his sole reason for the move to the Mother City for a job opportunity at at Bishops Preparatory School. He was later introduced to False Bay Rugby Club, which later led to him playing for the Ikey Tigers, a move that ultimately set him on the path to become one of the biggest Stormers between 2015 and 2017.

SPRINGBOKS MUST BE READY FOR THE FORMER STORMERS
He has since returned to his birth country and following his selection in Scotland 33-man World Cup squad, he has admitted to wanting to lay into the Springboks and some of his former Stormers teammates.
“We’ve had the whole summer to build up and it’s nice to have the big one up first,” he said. “It’s a massive game. They’re world champions, they’re on form if you look at their last couple of games and they are a top side.
“It is a huge challenge for us, but it’s one we’re really excited about. With the game we want to play, we’re confident about it.
“It’s going to be hugely important not to lose focus in any moments. If we can put our game together and stay in the moment, hopefully that will be enough.”
