Five Orlando Pirates players selected for Bafana Bafana

Five Orlando Pirates players have been selected to represent Bafana Bafana next month.

The five are part of the 23-man squad Hugo Broos has selected for Bafana’s friendlies against Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, both hosted at Orlando Stadium next month.

Bafana Bafana are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Ivory Coast.

BROOS INCLUDE FIVE PIRATES PLAYERS IN HIS SQUAD

Having initially named a 36-man preliminary group, Broos has trimmed his squad to 23 players, and five Buccaneers have made the final cut on Wednesday.

Among the five, four have been retained from the team that secured AFCON qualification in June, while Pirates right back Thabiso Monyane could be set for a first official cap after receiving his call-up.

Jose Riveiro’s side have started the season strongly winning five of their seven matches in all competitions this season.

The Pirates players included in the Bafana squad include Innocent Maela, who started in Bafana’s last two AFCON qualifiers against Liberia and Morocco and Nkosinathi Sibisi, who could add to his four international appearances.

Top striker Zakhele Lepasa has been rewarded for his red-hot scoring form after finding the net nine times in eight games for Pirates this season and has an opportunity to add to his seven caps.

BUCS PLAYERS REWARDED WITH BAFANA CALL-UP

Reigning PSL Players’ Player of the Season, Monnapule Saleng is the other Pirates star to make the cut.

Bafana host Namibia on Saturday 9 September, and then do battle with DR Congo three days later at the Orlando Stadium.
