Klopp hailed Liverpool’s fans as the “superpower of world football” after his final match as manager ended in a 2-0 win at home to Wolves on an emotional day.
Alexis Mac Allister and Jarell Quansah scored the goals, but the game was largely a sideshow as supporters paid tribute to the German they have taken to their hearts.
JURGEN KLOPP GIVEN GUARD OF HONOUR
The charismatic 56-year-old, who announced in January he was leaving the club, has forged a strong bond with the Anfield faithful, who gave him a rousing welcome as he emerged from the famous tunnel.
After full-time he returned to the pitch through a guard of honour from the players to address the crowd wearing a red top bearing the words “Thank You” on the front and “I’ll Never Walk Alone Again” on the back.
Klopp bids farewell to Liverpool after nine years in charge, having won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup.
As reported by the SAPeople website, keen to ensure his link with the city endures long after he leaves Merseyside, Klopp ignored his suspicion of social media by unveiling his own Instagram account on Saturday.
The account is called ‘Kloppo’ and labels him ‘the normal one’, in a reference to former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s self-styled ‘special one’ nickname.
Jurgen Klopp’s social media venture gained nearly 2.3 million followers since his debut post – a typically emotional video address to Liverpool fans.
Liverpool have appointed 45-year-old Feyenoord coach Arne Slot as the club’s new coach from next season.
TREVOR NOAH ON TOUR
Klopp exchanged a few words with Noah – and urged him to follow him on the social media platform.
‘You can speak in a German accent!’ Klopp quipped, referring to Noah’s sketches at his attempts to learn German.
‘You ready? I’ll show you on the Instagram program,’ Noah replied before Klopp told him: ‘Follow me!’
Noah is set to embark on his ‘Off The Record’ Tour next month, starting in Singapore on 3 June.
His arrival in Europe comes 12 days later, as he’ll first perform in Stockholm.
The South African comedian, Primetime Emmy Award winner and former The Daily Show host will be in Germany on 1 August, first in Berlin before back-to-back nights in Stuttgart on 3-4 August.
