Controversial former Springbok Elton Jantjies has all but confirmed his return the Lions, after teasing a “new chapter” on social media in recent weeks. But will his scandals off the pitch follow him to his new club?
Most recently, the infamous flyhalf tested positive for a banned substance. In the past year, he’s also confessed to having an alleged affair with Bok dietician Zeenat Simjee, a public marriage split to wife Iva Ristic, and a stint in rehab. To add insult to injury, ex-girlfriend Ashleigh Ogle recently accused him of making violent threats against her.

ELTON JANTJIES CONFIRMS LIONS RETURN?
On Instagram, Elton Jantjies has remained upbeat about his future prospects despite his tainted reputation.
The 33-year-old has been teasing news of a return to rugby in various posts. In an Instagram Story over the weekend, he posted: “Three weeks to go.”

He added in another post: “It’s good to be back. In a few more days, weeks, I’ll be back to where everything started”.

However, during an Instagram Live, Elton all but confirmed his next club would be the Lions, where he first played professionally.
When one follower asked him: “What is the possibility of you playing for the Lions again?”, Elton replied: “Massive”.
According to SA Rugby Mag, Elton’s deal with the Lions is almost done and dusted.
The publication claims that Jantjies will reportedly fill a spot by Jordan Hendrikse, the brother of Springbok Jaden Hendrikse, who is eyeing a move to the Sharks.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE DOPING ALLEGATIONS?
In August, Elton admitted to testing positive for Clenbuterol, a fat burner that also aids stamina. The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport conducted the test in June via a urine sample.
However, Elton claimed that he did not knowingly take the substance and would launch an investigation into the results. He also vowed to prove his innocence by having his “B sample” tested for the substance.

Following Elton’s potential career-ending scandal, SA Rugby released a statement.
It read: “SA Rugby has noted the statement issued on behalf of Elton Jantjies and confirms it was advised of the adverse finding. A regulated process is now in train which we are bound to respect and allow to run its course without further comment or speculation.”

There has been no update on news of Elton’s bid to clear his name.
