Cape Town City coach sends a strong message to Kaizer Chiefs
Cape Town City coach, Eric Tinkler has sent a message to Soweto Giants, Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their clash at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler wants a big performance from his team against Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.
CAPE TOWN CITY ARE CHIEFS’ BOGEY TEAM
Seventh-placed Chiefs travel to Cape Town City on Saturday with both sides in desperate need of points to stay in touch for a two-two finish. City have won just one of their last eight league games, and City boss Eric Tinkler has reminded media of the fickleness of football. Chiefs are in poor form themselves, coming off the back of a Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates. Amakhosi have won just one of their last six assignments.
In terms of the H2H, City have won five of their last six league encounters against Chiefs, including last season’s corresponding fixture on the final day of the campaign. That result condemned Chiefs to 5th and helped the Citizens secure 4th in the DStv Premiership.
TINKLER IS DESPERATE FOR A WIN
“Obviously, it’s the world of sport,” he told journalists during a media open day in Cape Town. “You can have two draws, three draws, and then you lose. ‘Oh, you haven’t won in four games’. Or you win, ‘you haven’t lost in four games’. That’s how quickly football can change. That’s the way the media interpret things.”
Tinkler believes the test of facing Chiefs is the perfect fixture to help his side bounce back to form.
“It’s important for us to try to get back to winning ways. There is no better team to do it against than Kaizer Chiefs.”
“I think they’re a different team than when we played them at the beginning of the season. It’s not going to be easy; it’s going to be tough.”
