Bumper transfer fee Mamelodi Sundowns paid for Matthews!
Mamelodi Sundowns have had to part with top dollar to sign former South African junior international Tashreeq Matthews according to the latest reports.
Mamelodi Sundowns pulled off a transfer deadline day for the ages, signing both Tashreeq Matthews and Thembinkosi Lorch.

While Lorch stole most of the headlines, the signing of Matthews was also a massive statement by Sundowns.

Despite already cruising in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns were the most active side in the January window. The Brazilians already have a nine-point gap on second placed Cape Town City, with three games in hand. Thad did not stop them from pursuing a squad boost ahead of the second half of the season. Of course for them, they also have to factor continental commitments with hopes of a Club FIFA World Cup too.

Now with that on the horizon, Sundowns went and signed the Likes of Zukho Mdunyelwa, Matias Esquivel. Then when everybody thought that they had strengthened enough, they add Lorch and Matthews. Those players are set to boost their right back and midfield stocks which are already overflowing. Up front they have the likes of Peter Shalulile and Ribeiro Costa but still sought the services of Lars Veldwijk. The move for the Bafana Bafana target man is believed to be withdrawn as reported earlier last week.

Even though being able to lure your rivals talisman in Lorch is massive, luring Matthews is arguably bigger. The attacking midfielder is younger and was one of the most inform players in the Swedish league last season. His 11 goals and 10 assists for IK Sirius had reportedly put him in the window for bigger clubs. It was rumoured that Glasgow Rangers and Feyenoord had been looking at the player. Kaizer Chiefs had also been profusely linked to him, as a Keagan Dolly replacement. In the end, however, it was Sundowns who got the player.

Now to claw him away from Europe, would not have been a cheap deal to do. According to Soccer-Laduma via Transfermkrt Sundowns may have parted with a cool R30 million to sign Matthews. It is also suggested that the 23-year-old penned a four-year deal at Chloorkop.
