Bafana Bafana needs to move on from Percy Tau [Opinion]
Percy Tau’s recent performance at AFCON has fans thinking it’s best if Bafana Bafana move forward without the Al Ahly star
Percy Tau has already enjoyed a glittering career both in Africa and Europe. However, now’s the time for Bafana Bafana to move on from the Al Ahly star with AFCON semi-final defeat still ringing in the ears.

BAFANA BAFANA WAS WASTEFUL IN THE FIRST HALF AGAINST NIGERIA
South Africa could and possibly should have been over the hill and far away at halftime against the Super Eagles. The major culprit in that regard, and it’s awful to single out individuals, was Percy Tau. The Al Ahly man had two gilt-edged chances to score but hit one of his shots tamely into the arms of Stanley Nwabali and then when he raced through on goal moments later, a heavy first touch meant the Chippa goalkeeper could easily come and gather.

YOUNG, DYNAMIC FORWARDS WAITING IN THE WINGS
South Africa’s forward line needs more dynamism and directness. Mihlali Mayambela showed his raw pace and power off the bench, while Bongokuhle Holngwane, prolific in the MLS, wasn’t even included in Hugo Broos’ squad for the tournament. Both could lay a viable claim to starting berths for Bafana for years to come. Orlando Pirates man Evidence Makopa showed he has the raw ingredients to make it work as the number 9, so it’s all about finding wide players who can thrive around a focal point striker. Percy Tau isn’t that man anymore. The former Sundowns, Brighton, Club Brugge and Anderlecht star will be 30 years old in May.
