South Africa dominated to earn the three points, a good return after losing 2-0 to Ghana on Thursday away from home.

Man of the match was forward Lebogang Phiri who sent Orlando into raptures with a cracking goal at the stroke of half-time.

After the match Phiri said: “I need to build on from this performance and try to cement my place in the squad.”

Bafana Bafana is now sitting on three points, in third position, while Sudan is still top of the table as they beat Sao Tome e Principe 4-0. Ghana is second.

Phiri says he has waited for a long time to get game time with the national team and now he needs to work harder and build on the performance he displayed against Sudan.

Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki applauded his team, saying it was a much needed win after the loss in the opening match.

Ntseki says his players did what they needed to do to get the desired result and also get Bafana Bafana back on track in the qualifiers.

The competition takes a nine-month break and will resume in September 2020.
