All Blacks’ Tony Brown: ‘It’s a privilege to coach the Springboks’
Former All Blacks star Tony Brown has called it a “privilege” to be involved with the Springboks as the team’s new attack coach.
Former All Blacks flyhalf Tony Brown has labelled it a “privilege” to be involved with the new-look Springboks set-up as the team’s attack coach.
Brown was on Tuesday confirmed as one of 18 Springboks management team members by new head coach Rassie Erasmus.
The 49-year-old Brown, who played 18 Tests for the All Blacks, scoring 171 points said: “It’s a privilege to be involved with the Springboks and to contribute to this great set-up. It was exciting to meet the coaches and the players at the alignment camp last week, and to map out the plans for the season, so I’m really looking forward to this journey.
“There are immensely talented players in the country and my goal is to ensure that we can continue to bring the best out of them on the field.”
Brown is among a number of new faces in the Springboks’ set-up which also includes Ireland’s Jerry Flannery (assistant coach) and recently retired international referee, Jaco Peyper (Laws and Discipline Advisor).
Springbok fans will get to see first-hand any changes Brown has brought to the world champions when they take on Wales at Twickenham in London in their first Test of the year on Saturday, 22 June.
