Former All Blacks coach Laurie Mains has long maintained that his team were poisoned on the brink of the 1995 Rugby World Cup final with a seemingly untraceable waitress named Suzie the one who is alleged to have done the deed.
A former bodyguard to Nelson Mandela and security detail for the All Blacks added fuel to this fire when he alleged that betting syndicates might have been responsible.
SUZIE VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE

Mains went as far as hiring a private detective to investigate the incident coming up only with the name Suzie.
Suzie has thus become a part of rugby legend but the alleged offender has never been tracked down.

SA RUGBY HAVE RUBBISHED THE ALLEGATIONS
Former SA Rugby boss Edward Griffiths rubbished claims that anyone within South African rugby had anything to do with the incident and also expressed his doubts as to whether the team was deliberately poisoned.

“Look, it’s true that five or six of them did have a stomach upset and I remember seeing Marc Ellis vomiting on the side of the field, so it’s certainly true,” Edwards said on the 20th anniversary of the 1995 final.
“But all I would say on that is they ate seafood, sort of prawns, crayfish and stuff days before a World Cup final. I mean, most people would know that seafood is something that at the wrong time can give you food poisoning and clearly some of them seemed to have picked up food poisoning from that.

“There was all talk of this woman called Suzie from Southern Sun and there were all sorts of rumours about it. I remember Laurie Mains talking about it. But all I will say is that whatever they ate it was their choice to eat it. No one forced them to eat seafood days before the World Cup final.”
