Adrian Wildschutt continued to make waves on the track on Sunday after setting a new South African record in the 3 000m.
Running at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial event in at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów in Poland, Wildschutt finished eighth in the race in a time of 7:32.99.
That was good enough to set a new South African record over the distance.
The time does however still need to be ratified by athletics’ governing body.
Adrian Wildschutt was born in Ceres
Wildschutt, still only 26 years old, also holds the South African record over 5 000m and 10 000m, the latter of which he set at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics.
Wildschutt ran 26:50.64 in the final of the 10 000m in Paris, finishing 10th in what was a pulsating race.
His time for the 5 000m of 12:56.67 was set at the Bislett Games in Oslo in Norway in late May this year.
Wildschutt was born in Ceres in the Western Cape and currently runs for the Hoka NAZ Elite team in the United States.
