Jacob Zuma and his daughter Duzuzile Zuma-Sambudla feature on the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party list of candidates headed for parliament after the May elections.
Former President Jacob Zuma and his daughter Duzuzile Zuma-Sambudla feature on the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party list of candidates headed for parliament after the May elections.
Others on the list include long-term Zuma associates and the leaders of several small parties that have formed alliances with Zuma and MK.
ZUMA’S DAUGHTER, NUMBER 18 ON THE LIST
Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile, is number 18 on the MK national list. At the same time, African Democratic Change (Adec) eThekwini councillor Visvin Reddy – until recently an ally of the ANC – is placed at number nine on the MK list.
Reddy caused a stir recently when he threatened violence if the MK party was not allowed to contest the elections by the IEC.
According to Mail & Guardian, Jabulani Khumalo, who registered the party, is number two on the MK list submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) last Friday.
DES VAN ROOYEN IS ALSO ON THE LIST
He is followed by All African Alliance Movement (AAAM) president Sophonia Tsekedi, whose church-based party declared Zuma as its preferred presidential candidate in January.
The list, which was leaked to the media on Saturday, also contains the names of several long-term Zuma associates, including tenderpreneur Roy Moodley and former finance minister Des Van Rooyen.
Van Rooyen and Moodley featured prominently at the Zondo Commission into state capture. Zuma walked out rather than face cross-examination and was jailed for 15 months for contempt.
BUSISIWE MKHWEBANE’S HUSBAND ON THE LIST
David Skosana, husband of former Public Protector and now Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament (MP) Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is number 15 on the MKP list, one below former EFF MP Sipho Mbatha.
Black First Land First (BLF) deputy leader Zanele Lwana has been included on the list of members of the MK party that will contest for seats in the national legislature.
