Malema promises that the EFF will stop load shedding and provide free electricity to the poor if elected to power in 2024.
Julius Malema has some interesting tactics to ensure the EFF will stop load-shedding if it comes to power in 2024. He illuminated these, and other manifestos, over the weekend at a party gathering at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
According to IOL, the EFF will stop load-shedding by ending Eskom privatisation. Not only that, but it will work closely with China to restore South Africa’s coal power stations. Thirdly, the EFF will get the Russians to build a nuclear power plant.
HOW THE EFF WILL STOP LOAD SHEDDING
While Malema may have grabbed headlines for his runny noise (pictured above), which some suggest indicates drug use on the day, there was no doubting the sea of red that turned out at the 50 000-seat Durban stadium. In the manifesto launch, Malema said, “An EFF government will ensure the security of electricity supply for at least the next 20 years, emulating successful models like that of China to foster national sovereignty and sustainable economic growth.”

Going into more detail on how the EFF will stop load-shedding in South Africa if elected, Malema highlighted the following:
- Provide free electricity up to 200 kWh per month to poor households.
- Repair and enhancement of the existing coal-fired power generation fleet.
- Adopting clean-coal technologies.
- Reducing electricity demand through economically sustainable strategies.
- Ending preferential electricity tariffs for select corporations.
- Fostering more equitable energy distribution.
- Establishing a state-owned mining company to manage coal supply.
- Eradicating illegal electricity connections.

Furthermore, the EF will stop load-shedding by working closely with China and other friendly nations to repair and restore coal power stations. Additionally, the EFF will continue with private-sector participation in electricity generation. However, it says the process must follow transparent procurement, with ownership transfer to the black majority.
Moreover, If the EFF is elected to power in 2024, it says it will build a nuclear power plant in South Africa with the help of the Russians. It, too, will follow a transparent procurement process, and aims to produce 3 000-6 000 megawatts of electricity.
