The early picture as votes continue to be counted around the country is that the African National Congress’ (ANC) overall support appears to have dropped considerably compared to the most recent 2019 results.

In early counting in KwaZulu-Natal, Jacob Zuma’s MK party has eaten into the ANC’s dominance and holds the lead at the time of publishing.

At 08:15, with the vote count suggests that the ANC will comfortably lose its majority in the province.

Almost all the support in 2019 for the ANC has gone to the MK party, while the DA and IFP are ‘on par’ with their results from the previous election.

The EFF, meanwhile, has suffered significant losses as well.

In 2019, the ANC recorded 54.52% of the total vote in KwaZulu-Natal, but was down at 20.11% in early counting this year.

OVERALL PICTURE

Meanwhile, as at 08:30 in terms of the overall picture, only 2 525 of 23 293 Voting Districts have completed counting (10.84%) with a total of 604 434 votes counted.

The ANC leads the way with 382 221 votes (42.57%), followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) (234 383 votes for 26.04%) with the EFF in third (73 334 votes at 8.15%).

NOTE: These are early numbers and are NOT final. However, they do give a good indication of what the final count may reflect.
